Who We Are

Our mission is breaking down barriers for POC/BIPOC/ and other marginalized communities in outdoor recreation. Our goal is to provide education, lessen the financial burden, and guide people during these experiences. Our diverse team is made up of people from from different backgrounds and perspectives, as we strive to be as diverse as our members and community. This diversity creates an immensely valuable melting pot, helping to shape our organization through diversity.
Our
Story
Zachary Drummond and Anthony Salazar, our two founders, have been passionate about the outdoors since childhood. However, it was their shared experiences in nature that inspired the founding of our organization. Zachary, with a background in environmental education, has worked with K-12 students and has consistently observed a significant gap between inner-city youth and their connection to the environment. Having grown up in a mixed ethnic household, he faced firsthand instances of racism while enjoying outdoor activities.
Anthony Salazar, a proud Mexican American and Ph.D. student at UC Berkeley studying Material Sciences and Engineering, also recognized the lack of representation in his academic field. When Zachary and Anthony began kayaking, hunting, camping, hiking, and skiing together, they noticed a striking absence of diversity in these activities. This realization prompted them to ask the critical question: Why? Driven by curiosity and a desire for change, they delved deeper into the complex relationship between people of color and the natural world. Their journey ultimately led to the creation of our organization, committed to fostering inclusivity and bridging the gap between underserved communities and the outdoors.
